When to change the motorcycle chain

It is one of the most complex concerns of the biker, since it may not be easy to detect and, above all, because it does not only involve knowing when our motorcycle is asking us to change the chain. At that point, we will not only have to change the motorcycle chain, but the entire transmission system, made up of three elements: the chain itself, the drive sprocket - in the engine - and the crown - attached to the rear wheel. -.
Since it is difficult to detect when it is time to anticipate problems to change the chain - or transmission system -, especially if we are not experts, it is better to consider easier to measure parameters such as the number of kilometers traveled. This is because the symptoms of wear are difficult to notice, especially if we are not very attentive to maintenance, and also to what our transmission kit is.
The latter is more decisive than it seems, since the effect on the number of kilometers traveled for the chain varies greatly depending on its quality, mainly due to the materials it is made of and which will directly affect the performance and duration of the chain kit. transmission before shifting becomes necessary.
This change will come sooner if your driving style is, let's say, more exhibitionist or vehement. If we like to accelerate quickly, hold on to reduce until the last moment and do the odd 'wheelie', the chain will suffer much more than if our driving is more academic, where prudence allows a life without suffering to the engine and, consequently, no wear to the chain. Likewise, it will be more demanding for it to drive on degraded terrain, mud or dust, than if we use the motorcycle without leaving the road or highway.

Maintenance and symptoms
Taking care of our motorcycle generally allows us to prevent rather than cure. If we make sure that the chain is always tight, clean and lubricated, we will not have to worry about when it might fail, since we take care of it and supervise it constantly, such as every two weeks, for example.
This does not mean that it will last us in perfect condition forever, far from it, but we will know in due course when the tensioners are asking us to move on. There we will know that it is best to change the transmission kit, as we have seen before, completely.
But if we are not very attentive to this maintenance, we will also receive signals while driving when the chain jerks occasionally because a tooth is skipping. It is best to act quickly, as we do not want to get to the point where the drive pinion fails, which will only happen if we have ignored the signs of wear that our transmission kit has been sending us.
If these symptoms become palpable, the most normal thing is that you can see how the chain begins to hang, with too much slack as a result of the lack of tension. The most normal thing is that it is a sign that everything it could do for you has already finished, and you need to always change the entire transmission kit, since doing it fault by fault is only prolonging a problem that in this way can never be solved. as it should.
